Over the years, Royal Salute whisky has been launched to commemorate numerous occasions regarding the monarchy, including a 50 Year Old that marked Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee in 2002, Royal Salute 21 Year Old - The Diamond Tribute, a blend made for the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II's coronation and The Royal Salute Age Collection, a limited edition set of 10 blended Scotch whiskies that celebrated the Queen becoming the longest reigning British monarch in 2015. Of these, the most prestigious is Royal Salute, launched in 1953 to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation. Showered with royal warrants since 1843, Chivas Brothers has more than returned the favour with Chivas Regal and a bevy of other blends with the word ‘royal’ in the title. There are faint hints of spice and ginger. But the flavours of oak and barley combine with fresh fruit and becomes amazingly balanced. It is not the most complex whisky and quite thin on the mouth. The Royal Salute brand’s home is Strathisla Distillery at Keith, Moray, Scotland. In 1842, Chivas Brothers were requested to supply provisions to the royal family at Balmoral Castle upon Queen Victoria’s first visit to Scotland. The Strathisla distillery is owned by Chivas Brothers, and Strathisla Single Malt is one of the malt whiskies used within the Royal Salute blend. The distillery was founded in 1786, and it is the oldest working distillery in the Highlands of Scotland. The brand's distillery and visitor centre are at the Strathisla distillery, located in Speyside. The jewels and crests of each country forming Great Britain were the inspiration for the artwork inside the gift box, symbolising the unity under the Crown and enduring solidarity between the nations. In keeping with Royal Salute’s signature style, the decanter is presented in a stunning wooden box inspired by the iconic Westminster Abbey, with details intricately chiselled into the wood, paying tribute to the historic setting of British Coronation ceremonies since 1066.
